Short week end in Paris

I went over to Paris to see my niece. She's now walking and talking quite a bit, starting to be in her "parrot period". She's lovely.
T. was going to come over with me on Friday night and then he had some last minute families issues to deal with. As I wasn't sure if he would eventually be able or not to postpone the trip by a few hours I exchanged the Eurostar tickets and I went back to Nottingham where T. confirmed me over the phone that he could not make it. Therefore I caught the train back to London on Saturday morning...
I went straight to my brother's and we had a walk with G. at the Luxembourg Gardens. We then shared his famous "petit salé aux lentilles" before I went to my hotel at the foot of the Cité de la Musique. Sunday I met up with my friend D. We had lunch at Parc de la Villette and had a stroll in the Parc des Buttes Chaumont and the neighborhood. Buttes Chaumont is well known for its houses which has a "provincial" feel.

Day out at Windsor Castle with National Trust

It's about 3 hours drive so we were in Windsor for lunch. The City seems quite nice but unfortunately we didn't have time to visit it. It's the right period of the year to visit Windsor castle as all the semi-state & state apartments are opened to the public. There is a cafe but no Sevres porcelain there... Joke apart the art collection on show is quite impressive. With the audio guide it took us over 2 hours to go round hence we didn't make it for the 4' o'clock last daily entrance at St Georges church.

Short week end in London

Last week end I went down to London. I wanted to vote for the Socialist's Primaries at the "Lycée Français Charles de gaulle" where it was hold for the French expats registered at the Consulate. But as I have been on the lists only since last September I couldn't vote : it will be all right from 1st January. Thankfully my friend T. was in London too. We met up for lunch and then had a nice walk in Holland Park.

I saw Brian Joubert in Orléans !!

I am presently in Orléans. I should have been going to Montpellier from Thursday night but because of the SNCF train managers strike I had to change my plans at the very last minute. I went to Orléans via Lille - from where the train bound to Montpellier was not running anymore - and Paris. As always I stayed in the family flat in Orléans City Centre and I had my breakfast in the nearby hotel. Yesterday morning there was quite a commotion : the hotel was hosting this week end a large party from the Master's Skating in Orléans. Brian Joubert was there.

Trip to Newcastle with the Nottingham Nottingham Centre Group (2)

Monday we went round Newcastle with a Blue Badge Guide on board our coach. We had lunch at the Laings Gallery Cafeteria. I chose not to visit the Art Gallery but instead to walk to the Civic Centre and back. We then headed for Seaton Delaval Hall. See : http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-seaton-delaval-hall/w-seaton_delaval-saveit.htm
It's the latest National Trust's acquisition and therefore we were among the 1st groups to visit it. They treated us like VIPs and we had a lot of extra information on what's works are going to be done there in the years to come.
Tuesday - last day - we stopped on our way at Washington. It's a village with a lot of history linked with the U.S.A.

Very nice volunteers from National trust welcomed us in the Old Hall with the Geordie accent. The visit included a lunch with local food.
We traveled back to Nottingham in the afternoon.
All in all it has been a very pleasant trip thanks to the dedicated Nottingham Centre National Trust Committee.
