Motoring down to France

I left Nottingham last Thursday. First stop over : Wakefield at my friends E & J. On the way I saw a bit of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (see : http://www.ysp.co.uk/view.aspx?id=3). On Friday we visited Sandal Castle and Brodsworth Hall (see : http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/brodsworth-hall-and-gardens/). Still on my way down (?!) to France I went to Leeds to help out my friend C. to move back down to L. On Saturday we hit the road and early evening we went round Canterbury. I was hopping to go the Cathedral Crypt. My friend P. from L. has an icon there I wanted to see again. The Cathedral was already closed so I guess I'll have to come back on the 8th when I'll be driving back to Nottingham.
C. & I had decided to have a overnight break before to catch the ferry in Dover on Sunday morning. The cheapest hotel I could find in the area happened to be in Clacton-On-Sea. But I didn't realise that it's actually quite a few miles away. We had a Cantonese-Tea at Southend-On-Sea and reached Clacton at 11:30 p.m.

Week end in Bristol

I spent 3 days in Bristol to visit K. I had met K. in France where he spent 3 years. He's now back in Bristol. We did a lot of things : going round the City, socialising, going to the theater and finally visiting a National Trust property. This house is under restoration and it was fascinating to be able to climb up along the inside scafoldings. We ended the week end by a cream tea in the court yard of this place.

Last Sunday

Last Sunday with C. we went to visit Keddleston Hall. I do apologise : I thought I had on entry on it but I have been mixing it up with Hardwick Hall ! For more info see :http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-kedlestonhall

Then on our way back to Nottingham we stopped in Derby to see the Cathedral. And eventually we saw Nottingham Cathedral and the tunnel linking Derby Rd and the Park Estate.

Billy Elliot : The Musical

It was a youth production and it was fairly good. The way it has been adapted as a music hall is smart. Saying that I thought there wasn't any tune standing out.

White Material by Claire Denis

This month there is a series of Claire Denis' film. This one is set in Black Africa where Isabelle Huppert tries against all odds to stay in a country torn apart by internal war. If your desperate to get nightmares, go to see it ! http://www.broadway.org.uk/film_programme.php

The Heartbreaker

Very funny comedy with Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis. Although it's very French it has quite some British humour. Not to be missed !
