Farewell Party

Monday night we had a party, lot of nice food, laughter and nice wishes from my room mates. I didn't do any speech but instead I sung a piece I had written. Wording and music partly from "South Pacific".

Song for the Farwell Party

SOME ENCHANTED… STRANGE HOME

Some enchanted evening, when you see a strange home, (Chorus)
When you see a strange home across an empty street
And somehow you know, you know even then,
That somewhere you’ll see it again and again.

Some enchanted evening, someone may be laughing,
You may hear him laughing across the empty hall
As strange as it seems, it’s only B watching a DVD

Chorus

Some enchanted evening, someone may be « rrrgh » at you,
You may hear him « rrgh » at you across the empty landing,
As strange as it seems, it’s only M, saying good night to you.

Chorus

Some enchanted evening, someone may be shouting « I’m so happy » across the empty kitchen
As strange as it seems, it’s only R delighted that you liked his home made biscuit.

Chorus

Some enchanted evening, someone may be saying « you know perfectly well I will only have wild salmon from Scotland, nothing else
As strange as it seems, it’s only B’s cat B rabiting about his food.

Chorus

Some enchanted evening, you may hear her pleading « don’t eat Patrick he’s so cute ! » across the crowded fridge
As strange as it seems, it’s only our artist Y.

Chorus

Some enchanted evening, someone may be stating « well you know, I think I’m going to do spaghettis tonight « accross dark Ray’s room
As strange as it seems, it’s only J having a sudden inspiration.

Chorus

Some enchanted evening, someone may be buzzing himself across a spotless stove.
As strange as it seems, it’s only B trying out a new recipe.

Conclusion

Some enchanted evening, when you find this strange place, when you feel it call you across an empty road
Then flee from it and don’t go inside or all through your life you may never dream alone.
Once you have found it, never let it get you, once you have found it, never let it get you !

The Yeats Project

I went again last night to the Irish Repertory Theater as a usher. They are currently playing "The Yeats Project". For more info see : http://www.irishrep.org/. It's in honor of the poet and play writer William Butler Yeats (1865 - 1939). The language is beautiful and it is charmingly fanciful and poetic.

JASA job (6)

Last minute job : I went to a Day Center on Coney Island - on the extreme west - to take the calls for the director who had to leave for a few hours. In actual fact very few phone calls. And I was able to participate in a ballroom dance lesson ! Afterwards I walked back along the beach. The fog was so dense that one's could hardly see the difference between the sky and the ocean.

Austin, Texas : Easter Week End

I had this great opportunity to visit Texas ! A friend of mine, P., in France is from there. So she connected me with her sons and friends. With her sons we went to a Barbecue German Style out in the country. It's more like a warehouse with a built in huge wood grill. You eat with a sheet of paper in front of you instead of a plate on the table. You're supposed to use only your fingers but it's ok to bend the rule and have plastic cutlery. Portions are huge. Nice meat, very tender and digest. If you can't face it all you can ask to wrap it to take it home.

Johnson City Intersection

Wake up Benoit ! You're in Texas ! A City is not a City with a Cathedral and a Mairie ! It is a town which happened to be a town because it is located at a major road intersection and it just spread & spread... A friend of my friend P. took me over there and we made a restroom stop by a church which is in the middle of nowhere. And then for a wine testing. It is a important area for vines. Finally we had lunch in the "World Best Fried Chicken Restaurant". It was good actually.

Bats Bridge

The World Largest Urban Bats Population is in Austin, Texas

From about March through October a huge bats colony emigrates from Mexico. During this period, every evening before sunset a human crowd watches the bats flying away from the bridge.

Passover again but this time at Coney Island. The day center is a few hundreds yards from the
Luna Park Wonder Wheel. I helped to set up the tables and then to serve the traditional meal. For info on the most Eastern dishes see :

Coney Island has a very large Russian population so the rabin did the comments and prayers mainly in Russian.

Lifelines

Yesterday was an horrid day : raining cats and dogs, thunder even... Perfect weather conditions to go to the movies ! I saw "Lifelines". A family going together to the shrimp to relieve the tensions raising up day by day like in a tank of a crazy steam engine. For the official version see : http://www.quadcinema.com/
I liked it. It sounds quite real.

I carry on following "New York Enclaves". On the photos it's the right hand side one which is the historic one... I was lucky enough to be able to take a picture in the 2 minutes lapse when the parking slot was free...
